LabGenetics is one of the few laboratories in Europe with technical and methodological capability to carry out any kind of biological kinship test, even if these kinship relationships are distance and complex. Our resolute competence is based on the following aspects:
Analyzed genetic markers
LabGenetics uses a total of 17 genetic markers, which make us one of the laboratories in Europe with major discrimination capability. Although analyzing 13 or 15 genetic markers can be enough to solve a paternity case, in order to research a complex kinship relationship it is essential to increase the number of analyzed STRs.
Mitochondrial DNA test (maternal lineage)

LabGenetics uses the mitochondrial DNA analysis to solve complex biological kinship cases, in which autosomal STRs analyses do not offer enough guarantees. The mitochondrial DNA is a type of DNA, which is maternally transmitted, so all individual (men or women) that share maternal lineage (half-brother by mother side, maternal uncle/aunt-niece, maternal cousins, etc) will have the same mitochondrial DNA.
Y chromosome STRs test (paternal lineage)
LabGenetics analyzes 15 genetic markers (STRs) of Y chromosome to solve complex biological parental cases, in which involved individual (always males) are supposedly paternally related (half-brother by father side, paternal uncle-nephew, paternal cousins, etc), achieving a discrimination level of 98,80%.
Statistical evaluation and results interpretation
A fundamental part in biological complex kinship investigations is the statistical evaluation of the test and the interpretation of the obtained results. LabGenetics has bio-statistics experts in its team, and all our reports include detailed information about the probabilistic interpretation of the results.
In LabGenetics we do all kind of biological parental test, from any kind of samples, and we do offer the results within 3 working days:
Full Sibling test (both parents are common)
---
Half Sibling test (only 1 of the parents is common)
Grandparentage and Reconstruction test (grandfather-niece: uncle-nephew; cousins, etc.)
Maternal Lineage Test (mitochondrial DNA analysis)
Paternal Lineage Test (Y chromosome - STRs analysis)
